LUCY ROSE NEBRASKA

In the over-saturated, 24-hr social media-driven world in which we live, it’s easy to become desensitised to what would have previously been considered avant-garde or even shocking. So imagine our delight when we discovered that Columbia-signed singer/songwriter Lucy Rose’s video for latest single ‘Nebraska’ features none other than EastEnders very own Danny Dyer (along with cameos from some of Lucy’s past musical cohorts eg Ghostpoet, Rae Morris, Joseph Salvat), in a jarringly unexpected context that quite genuinely had us silenced.  There is extraordinary power in the juxtaposition of Rose’s cut-glass, diaphanous vocals against the backdrop of Dyer’s mournful inner struggle, which proves at times to be painful to witness. Dyer explains: "I was honoured to be asked by the maestro that is Lucy Rose to be part of her video. When I got the treatment through I was overwhelmed. I think it's such a moving piece of work. I'm beyond proud to be part of it. I've always believed that people should be who they wanna be, regardless of race or gender. Freedom of expression is so important.” This is a bold, breathtaking statement of a Christopher McGill-directed film from the ascendant star that is Lucy Rose, and an emotive, brave turn from Mr. Dyer. -AO
